Explore the Crawfish Capital of the World
Start your Breaux Bridge adventure with a thrilling swamp tour at Lake Martin. Discover the natural beauty of St. Martin Parish with a safe, action-packed swamp tour. Lake Martin is home to the largest wading bird rookery in the United States. From late March to early August, you'll find over 140 species of birds nesting.
Next, head to the Bayou Teche Visitors Center, 514 East Bridge in downtown Breaux Bridge for a friendly welcome, brochures, and maps. Be sure to pick up a shopping guide, and a downtown walking tour map for descriptions and historical facts of the buildings. Don't forget to snap a few photos of the Bayou Teche and the iconic 1950 Bridge, a landmark of Breaux Bridge.
Make your way across the street to Parc des Pont de Pont Breaux, which means Park of the Bridges of Breaux Bridge. Be sure to check out the impressive 20-foot granite Snake Sculpture, which tells the legend of the Bayou Teche as passed down by the Chitimacha tribe of Louisiana. The sculpture also celebrates the Bayou Teche's importance to Acadiana. Nearby you'll find the 1855 Bridge, the town's first footbridge, now repurposed as a culture stage and fishing pier.
Head back across the street to visit the Teche Center for the Arts. Explore the Bridge Collection, an ongoing, public exhibition of donated art by local artists of their vision of the iconic bridge that crosses the Bayou Teche.
Enjoy lunch at one of Breaux Bridge's local Favorites. You have a couple of delicious options in downtown Breaux Bridge. Buck and Johnny's for Cajun-inspired Italian dishes or Tante Marie's for traditional Cajun comfort food.
After lunch take a stroll through downtown Breaux Bridge. Browse the unique shops like Janell's Gifts and Antiques, Trove and Company for boutique shopping, and Pink Alligator Gallery for curated art and handcrafted jewelry.
Make a stop at Veteran's Park, home to the War Veteran Monuments, and a statue of Scholastique Picou Breaux, the founder of Breaux Bridge. It's a perfect spot to reflect on the town's history.
Wrap up your trip with a delicious Cajun dinner at one of these favorite local spots. Randol's for seafood and live music, or Jeaux Biffs for traditional Cajun flavors in a cozy setting.
