Arnaudville
Deaux Bayous
Arnaudville, a small town nestled where Bayou Teche and Bayou Fuselier meet, traces its roots to the mid-1700s when French settlers and Acadian exiles made their way into the Attakapas District. The community was first known as La Jonction, referencing its location at the junction of the two waterways, which made it a natural gathering place for settlement, trade, and travel. In 1856, it was renamed in honor of the Arnaud's, a family of French Settlers, whose descendants still reside in the area. Like much of the region, Arnaudville became home to a blend of Acadian, French, Creole, and Native American influences, with farming and trade sustaining the community. Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the town remained a small but vibrant rural center, deeply tied to Catholic traditions, Cajun and Creole culture, and the French language. In recent decades, Arnaudville has gained recognition as a hub for cultural preservation and exchange, particularly through the arts, music, and French language initiatives. Today, it is celebrated for its unique history, lively festivals, and creative spirit that honors its Acadian and Creole roots while fostering a dynamic, modern cultural community.
