When Cabin Fever Sets In, Head to the Outdoors

Though the Covid-19 pandemic has temporarily shuttered businesses near and dear to the hearts of St. Martin Parish residents, there is one element of good news amid this hard time: you can still experience all the natural beauty that abounds within the region’s swamps, bayous, and basins. Several local campgrounds and RV parks remain open for guests itching to get out of the house and into nature nearby. Whether you’ve got a case of cabin fever and need some fresh air, are looking for new ways to safely entertain the family, or just want to disconnect and take a break from the 24/7 news cycle, a little time outdoors goes a long way. Especially this month, before the mild spring climate is replaced by suffocating summer heat.

You can practice open air social distancing while enjoying all the perks camp life in South Louisiana has to offer, so get your tent, camper or motorhome ready for a long weekend of fishing, campfire cooking, card games, fireside brews, and stargazing with the family—you’ll be glad you did. Just don’t forget to pack plenty of hand sanitizer, and bug spray, too.

Below are the campgrounds and parks still open within St. Martin Parish, along with reservation details. While the cook-offs and concerts will have to wait, several of the parks have stocked ponds ready for the taking on site or nearby. Though on-site cabins and public amenities are closed to guests, some parks are offering special discounted rates for specific dates, so be sure to check their social media pages for the most up-to-date information.
